PISTONS/BULLS - GAME 2 - BIG D IN THA HOUSE!

Posted by bigD | May 9, 2007 .

On Monday, I got a 4pm phone call from my cousin who had Pistons/Bulls playoff tickets and wanted to know if I wanted to go to the game. Do flies eat… (ahem … well … you know)? OF COURSE I WANTED TO GO TO THE GAME. I go to a lot of Detroit sporting events but to be honest, not many Piston games (despite the fact that I never miss a game on the tube) so you bet your ass when he called, I got pumped up. It was time for some DEEETROIT BASKET-BAAAAAALLLLL!!!

palace.jpgOur seats were nothing great (like 7 rows from the very back…upper deck) but who cares? The Palace was rocking on this night (as usual) and to be honest, I’ve never seen or heard a more lively, loud, rocking, in your face type of crowd in all my life. You see it on the TV but you just don’t get the feel for a Piston game until you’re there. Well believe me Detroiters…I FOUND OUT!!! I guess it helped that every single seat there had blow up clap stix (or whatever the hell they’re called) and everyone was banging them loudly. I walked out of there deaf but that’s what made it so spectacular and again, in truth, I’ve never been to a sporting event with a louder crowd in my life. The introductions with the shooting smoke and fire were tremendous and as loud as public address announcer, MASON is on TV, it’s so loud in the stands that you can’t even hear his voice from the upper level. I was absolutely amazed and again, you really don’t realize the spectacle that is a Piston game nowadays until you experience it in person. TRUST ME!

webber.jpgAnd now, on to the game itself. The Pistons came out on fire from start to finish in this one. It sure helped that the Bulls weren’t shooting well and that Detroit was playing solid defensively, but offensively the Pistons looked like they were from another planet. Chris Webber had 22 in the game despite him and Rasheed being in foul trouble for most of the contest but I thought Webber was the one player that Chicago clearly had no answer for. Detroit kept hitting outside shots all night long but when they did go inside to Webber, his turn around hook shot was working to perfection. Webber has the inside game that the Pistons clearly lacked when they had Ben Wallace. Not to take anything away from Rasheed in the post but I am a lot more confident when Webber has it down low due to the passing and scoring ability of C-Webb and that was clearly evident on this night.

ben.jpgBig Ben was really hearing it from the Detroit fans and rightfully so. “Hey Ben…Do you think you made the right choice now?” Ben actually didn’t have a bad game and I thought he was one of the few bright spots (at least by his standards) for the Bulls. Hell, Ben was even hitting free throws (something I couldn’t believe). Ben sat for much of the 2nd half. One of the reasons for this is because the Bulls needed more offense at that time and were being flat out smoked by the Pistons in all areas. That’s really the best way to describe this game which ended up being a 108-87 final. The Pistons have too many weapons when they’re going on all cylinders for Chicago. With all the outside shots going in for Detroit and the inside game from Webber working, this Piston team just might be headed for glory after all this season because you can’t stop a team when they have everything working for them as Detroit did on Monday.

gordon.jpgChicago better go back to the drawing board for Thursday Night’s game but again, the problem is they’re outmatched and unless the Pistons don’t bring it in Chicago, this series is destined to be over in 4 or 5. Ben Gordon is definitely the key. He was silent on this night as were the Bulls from the outside. Gordon must score for the Bulls if they’re going to win. It’s that simple because after Gordon, you really only get the odd 3 ball from Nocioni or Hinrich and some strong all around play from Luol Deng. There isn’t a lot of overall scoring on this Bulls team if Gordon isn’t dropping 20 and it kind of disappointed me that he was a non-factor because it just wasn’t a competitive game at all.

broom1.JPGSWEEP??? After seeing this game live you get the feeling it’s a matter of Detroit winning or losing and has very little to do with the Bulls at all. After the Bulls beat Miami out as easily as they did, I never thought I’d say that but I am more then happy that I am. With ex-Tiger, Willie Horton, the Detroit Tigers current players all in attendance (night off) and with the Pistons dominating, it truly was a game I won’t soon forget. Nor will Detroit!
