HOME SWEET HOME!

Posted by | September 25, 2011.

If ever there was a time for a team to return to their home field, the time was now for the Port Huron Northern Huskies. After the schedule Gods on high set up the Huskies to be on the road for the first four games of the 2011 season, indeed Northern was “clawing” to return to Memorial Stadium for the first time since last October’s tough playoff loss. Northern certainly didn’t disappoint either. Coming into Friday Night’s game vs. the Utica Chieftans (MAC WHITE), the Huskies were only 1-3 on the season but with their convincing 34-14 blowout victory it’s obvious that the Husky recipe for success was simply to return home! Nothing in the game of football is a guarantee. That’s why you play the games. That’s why upsets can indeed happen and on Friday night…ONE DID! The Port Huron High Big Reds (now a perfect 4-0) shocked the MHSAA football world, The Big D and everyone else who saw this unbelievable game at Memorial Stadium as PH upset the mighty Utica Eisenhower Eagles (fell to 3-1) – 22-21 to the delight of all the Big Red fans in attendance! I kid you not. Eisenhower came into this contest as the #2 ranked team in Division 1 in the Associated Press Poll. NOT ANYMORE. Indeed, it’s time to celebrate, Port Huron. The Big Reds are for real. What a great game…what a great upset and mainly…what a pleasure to call this thrilling game. Here’s how THE BIG D saw this incredible upset… …CONTINUE READING =>

BIG, BAD BIG RED PASS RUSH!

The MHSAA’s MAC Conference is filled with many tough opponents in Varsity Football. For that reason, it’s so important to get off to a good start to your season. In the case of the Port Huron High Big Reds, thus far, everything seems to be going great. Indeed life has been Big and life has been red and Port Huron has loved every minute of it thus far! Entering the season, there were many questions for Head Coach, Ryan Mullins. The loss of QB – Justin Black (moved away) before his senior season left the Big Reds wondering if he could be replaced. Have we ever doubted coach Mullins before? Anyone who does is usually silenced. He always seems to replace one great talent with the other year after year after year. It seems like this year is certainly no exception. Most teams would have a hard time replacing such a talented player like Black but not this one. Not this time. Not the 2011 Big Reds. Enter Junior QB – Mark Chapman into the mix. In Chapman, the Big Reds have yet another strong duel threat talent. In 2 weeks, Chapman has … …CONTINUE READING =>
