FRUSTRATION ALL AROUND

Posted by | June 1, 2007 .

bryant3.JPGI am frustrated with the Pistons. How about that LeBron James folks? It’s like a young Michael Jordan all over again learning with on the job training and the Pistons are the monkey’s who are unwillingly (but doing it anyway) teaching him. How can the Cavs call last night’s victory a team win? LeBron scored their last 25 points? Are you kidding? Are the Cavs’ players all rejects? Give the ball to LeBron and watch? Yeah, there’s really lot’s of skill in doing that. How could the Pistons let him beat them knowing he was getting the ball with a desire to score every single time down court. I know he’s going to hit jump shots but when he takes the lane you can’t just let him walk right in. I don’t care if they foul him. It’s better then watching him dunk it with authority unconstested. It was pitiful and this series is destined to be over in 6 folks. The Pistons deserved to lose and LeBron is destined for NBA Finals greatness. There is no stopping him but as he proves, you can stop Detroit. Anyway moving right along from one frustration to another…Kobe Bryant is frustrated. CRY ME A RIVER. Oh I am so concerned! When you’re a spoiled brat bryant2.jpgwho always wants your own way you tend to get like that. The trouble is, the man is so bloody talented, the Lakers give him whatever he wants to make him happy. They want to rebuild (something they’ve tried to do ever since Shaq went to Miami) around Bryant but Kobe doesn’t think they’re moving in the right direction in doing so. Recently, Kobe came off as looking like the little crybaby that he is. Lakers owner Jerry Buss spoke with Kobe Bryant on Thursday and said he told Bryant that he is willing to do whatever it takes to improve the Los Angeles Lakers. Kobe on the other hand sees it as more of a case of Dr. Buss already having that chance and not succeeding at it. The conversation between the 2 took place a day after Bryant made it public that he wanted to be traded claiming that he had been misled by Buss throughout his tenure after he re-signed with the Lakers three years ago.

buss.JPGThe Buss/Bryant conversation on Thursday morning apparently went well. Buss wrote a statement regarding the convo saying, “I share his frustration and, more importantly, I assured him that we will continue to pursue every avenue possible to improve our team with him as the cornerstone. I told him that we will keep him apprised of our progress and we agreed that we will talk again in the very near future.” Buss makes it sound so calming doesn’t he? Well if it’s all that easy then why is Kobe claiming he was misled in the first place? Simple…it’s called being a spoiled brat when you don’t win. Kobe won 3 championships too soon in his career. He became spoiled so he became greedy and when the sweet taste of victory and titles left him, it became a sour taste in his mouth because he couldn’t return to past glory so he sulks. He thinks that this is the best thing for him to do. Not for the Lakers…FOR HIM. Whatever happened to team commitment? If he cares so much about winning from a team standpoint then why doesn’t he sit down and try and have his contract re-structured so that Buss can have management go out and look for players knowing they can spend more for them. Kobe wants his cake and wants to eat it too. The trouble is it’s a rarity in this world (let alone the sports world) to have both and get away with having both. That’s exactly what Bryant wants. When you sign a 7 year contract worth 136 million dollars plus and still have 4 years and 88 million dollars owed to you with a supposed no trade clause in the deal and yet you go yapping off about the Lakers not spending or not getting quality around you it’s all about being stubborn, spoiled and quite frankly, a brat. It all goes to Bryant, no one else. Well how about less to Bryant and more elsewhere? You give to get, Kobe. YOU DON’T JUST RECEIVE.

bryant1.jpgBryant, asked the Lakers for a trade Wednesday. He said nothing could change his mind, but he backed off somewhat after speaking with Lakers Head Coach, Phil Jackson. Why change your mind so quick, Kobe? Are you that greedy that you’re also undecided and could it be that you just yapped off while thinking about yourself over the Lakers as usual? How can it simply be the next day or even later on in the same day when he changes his mind instead? Is it just a plea by Bryant again to attempt to be the center of attention in the basketball world? Yes, probably. Is he overly jealous about watching Cleveland, Detroit and San Antonio still going at it when it should be poor Kobe, Kobe, KOBE in it? Yes, probably. Again, winning all those titles at such a young age benefited the Lakers but not in the sense that their superstar gained overwhelming greed when he stopped winning.

phil.jpgAfter Kobe did a flip flop and changed his mind, he then told KLAC radio, “I don’t want to go anywhere — this is my team. I love it here. I called Phil, man. He and I talked; it was an emotional conversation. But he just said, `You know what, Kobe? Let us try to figure this thing out.”’ I have to hand it to Jackson…he is such a calming influence on his players. He is probably what made Bryant change his mind. Jackson knows how to handle egos better then anyone (as proven with the past Jordan-carried Bulls teams) and he certainly knows how to handle Bryant. It’s lucky he did because Kobe is clearly most of the talent on a barely above average Laker squad.

bryant4.jpgBryant claimed before hearing from Buss that speaking to him would go a long way in resolving the matter. So why say all this on ESPN radio in the first place? This is not the right thing to do to make a basketball team better. Take the matter up with your coach and owner, not with ESPN radio. What an incredibly selfish act. Bryant actually told ESPN that he would rather “go play on Pluto” than remain with the Lakers. GOOD. GO THEN. Power to you. Bryant also claimed that he felt that Buss misled him right before he re-signed by telling him one thing and Jackson something else about the team’s goals. Bryant said he was told the Lakers would immediately try to rejoin the NBA’s elite. Well guess what…IT DOESN’T HAPPEN OVERNIGHT. Bryant said that Phil Jackson told him this week that Buss wasn’t bringing him back as coach following the 2003-04 season because the Lakers were committed to reducing payroll and that they wanted to rebuild for the long term. Obviously, Bryant isn’t about rebuilding or any problems along the way in doing so. He is simply about winning and winning RIGHT NOW for one person…KOBE BRYANT!

Kobe has the option of terminating his contract after the 2008-09 season. If Buss doesn’t make Kobe approved changes soon, I think it’s a good bet he will terminate it but this whole situation can’t sit well with the Lakers at all. Here, Kobe. Take your 88 million, go buy your 6th summer home, admire your trophies and your wife (hotter then fire might I add) and shut your mouth. Wow…Kobe Bryant shutting up. WHAT A REFRESHING CONCEPT!
