ONLY ONE WAY TO GO…UP!

Posted by | January 15, 2012.

They say losing is contagious. After announcing the Port Huron High Big Reds’ last basketball game on Friday Night vs. the Utica Stevenson Titans I think perhaps there’s something to that thought. It wasn’t that long ago that the Big Reds were celebrating their Ed Peltz Tournament Championship and a 3 game winning streak. Unfortunately, all good things have to come to an end. The last 3 games have been anything but a good thing as PH has been blown out by Fitzgerald (72-42), Madison (72-50) and now Stevenson. Even though Friday’s 58-43 loss wasn’t as bad as the previous 2, a loss is still a loss. So what is the answer to bring the Big Reds out of this funk? First things first! Here’s how THE BIG D saw Friday’s contest… …CONTINUE READING =>

A ROUGH MAC WHITE BEGINNING

Posted by | January 8, 2012.

It was a night that the Port Huron Northern Huskies Basketball team would like to forget but in order to be successful in the 2012 season, it’s a game that they absolutely have to remember. The Roseville Panthers (now 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the MAC WHITE) came to Port Huron’s north side on Thursday Night to oppose our Huskies (now 3-3 and 0-1) to open up the MAC WHITE season and they happily left with a 57-48 victory. Was it the Panthers who won this contest though or was it instead the Huskies who lost it? Here’s how THE BIG D saw the contest which he also broadcasted for CPHS – Channel 6… …CONTINUE READING =>

ITS OVER…BUT IT COULD BE JUST THE BEGINNING!

All good things must come to an end. Friday Night the amazing 2011 season ended for the Port Huron High Big Reds. It has to be tough for the players the way it finished. Just the fact that the season is now over has to be difficult but knowing it ended on the final play of the game and year makes it that much tougher. The most important thing for this team is to not get down on themselves. Instead, they should look back and be happy at the amazing season they had. In short, they blew the city of Port Huron away. The Walled Lake Western Warriors ended up beating the Big Reds in double overtime 21-20 in one of the best defensive football games I’ve ever seen at Memorial Stadium. The aftermath of this game also makes me wonder…what if QB – Mark Chapman didn’t go down with an injury? Just before he hurt the same leg he injured three weeks ago (second last play of the first half) Chapman was beginning to dominate the Warriors. Just before halftime he sprinted for a 91 yard TD and another long 29 yard scamper that made everyone believe the Big Reds were in business. It was on the 29 yarder though where Chapman was dragged down by his arm and his leg was re-injured. With it, the Big Red offense came to a halt as Walled Lake had no respect for … …CONTINUE READING =>

THE PLAY OF ALL PLAYS!

Every now and then we witness a moment in sports that seems to stand out among the rest. It seems to capture us, amaze us and even in many ways temporarily stop time. Friday night at Port Huron’s Memorial Stadium we saw a special moment. It was that one special play that makes it possible for us to one day look back and say WE WERE THERE! I’m happy to say I called play-by-play for it. BIG RED QB – MARK CHAPMAN DID IT! He won the District Title for Port Huron with one big run! In doing so, #5 put an all time stamp on the greatest season in Port Huron football history, not only assuring yet another playoff game for the Big Reds this Friday Night but also assuring his place among the all time GREAT PORT HURON HIGH BIG REDS! One play sealed the 2011 fate of the Rochester Adams Highlanders. One play won the 2011 District Championship for Port Huron. One play said …CONTINUE READING =>
